Join HVAA in Welcoming Our New Technical Director
Bill O'Neill
Born and raised in the Philadelphia area, Bill has spent the past 23 years living in Jenkintown, PA, with his wife and their three children. His deep roots in the community are matched by a passion and commitment for soccer, both on and off the field.
Bill recently completed his 9th year as Head Coach of the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Bryn Athyn College and his 5th year as Associate Athletic Director. Initially hired in 2016 to launch the women’s soccer program, Bill was entrusted with leading the men’s program just a year later. In 2020, he was promoted to Associate AD in recognition of his leadership and impact across the department. Under Bill’s direction, the soccer programs have reached remarkable heights. He recently celebrated his 100th career win with both teams. The women’s team has qualified for post-season play in 6 of 8 seasons and, in 2023, secured their third consecutive conference championship, earning Coach of the Year honors for Bill and producing a Player of the Year and 8 All-Conference selections. The men’s team made history that season by hosting its first-ever post-season match. From 2021 to 2023, the women’s team posted an impressive .881 conference winning percentage and .774 overall, claimed the NCAA DIII Scoring Offense title with 4.5 goals per game, made two NCAA tournament appearances, and garnered multiple Player and Coach of the Year awards. In 2021, the men’s team qualified for the postseason for the first time in program history. The women’s program was the first team in Bryn Athyn College history to win an NCAA conference championship. Bill has emphasized not just athletic excellence but also academic achievement. The women’s team earned the United Soccer Coaches Academic Award in 2016 and from 2020 through 2024. As Associate Athletic Director, Bill’s responsibilities included operations, facilities management, budget oversight, game-day coordination, and youth athletic partnerships. He played a vital role in managing rentals and bookings—including key partnerships with Eastern PA Youth Soccer and Future Stars Day Camp, which generated some of the college’s highest revenue. Bill also served as the game-day administrator for men’s and women’s basketball, focused on delivering a top-tier experience for players, coaches, officials, and fans.
Before Bryn Athyn, Bill served as an assistant coach for the men’s programs at Holy Family University and Rowan University and as head coach for the boys at Truman High School and girls at Abington Friends School. Bill has also made a lasting impact through his volunteer work at Philadelphia Soccer Club (PSC), where he served as Director of Coaching and Technical Director. He introduced a comprehensive player development model, led an affiliation with the Philadelphia Union, and coached multiple high-performing teams, earning state rankings and tournament titles—including a state championship. During his tenure, PSC teams won several EPYSA State Cups and had players advance to the Philadelphia Union Academy.
As a player, Bill enjoyed an outstanding career at Rowan University (formerly Glassboro State), where he was a four-year starter, four-time All-Conference, three-time All-Region selection, two-year captain, and part of the 1989 NCAA Division III National Championship team, earning team MVP honors. His high school accolades include two Philadelphia Public League titles, a City Player of the Year award, and 1st Team All-Public and All-Scholastic honors. Bill was inducted into the Southeastern PA Soccer Hall of Fame in 2010 and the Rowan University Hall of Fame in 2016 for his achievements. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science from Eastern University, graduating Magna Cum Laude with certifications in Health & PE, Special Education, and Elementary Education, and has completed his USSF C License.
HVAA is proud and excited to welcome Bill as our club’s new Technical Director. His proven leadership, dedication to player development, and deep passion for the game perfectly align with HVAA’s mission to inspire, elevate, and grow youth soccer. With Bill’s guidance, we look forward to continuing to build a culture of excellence—both on and off the field.
