HVAA Travel Basketball Program Overview
ABOUT OUR PROGRAM
HVAA’s Travel Basketball program is designed to give players with more advanced basketball skills the opportunity to play against stronger competition. Our HVAA Travel Program enters competitive travel teams for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8 in ICBA, Inter-County Basketball league. There is typically one team in each grade level, usually with a roster of 10 players. Depending on several factors, we may build a second team in the same grade level if there are enough skilled players to form a second competitive team. However, every HVAA team plays in a different ICBA division based on the team’s talent level.
ALL PLAYERS TRYOUT FOR THE TEAM EVERY YEAR
HVAA Travel Basketball is more competitive than in-house basketball. HVAA builds new travel basketball teams from scratch each year. If a tryout participant were a player on an HVAA team the previous season, they would not automatically be guaranteed a spot on the team. During this year’s tryout process, all players are evaluated on multiple attributes, including performance, athleticism, and attitudes. Many athletes work on their basketball skills year-round. Some attend clinics and camps or personal trainers as well.
EXPECTATIONS ON PLAYING TIME
Our program is competitive! Playing time is left to the coach’s discretion, is not guaranteed, and should not be expected. A player’s minutes in a game are based on multiple attributes, including players’ performance, attitude, skill set, basketball IQ, and commitment to practices and games. Every game is different, and an athlete’s playing time will vary from game to game.
BASKETBALL OUTSIDE OF OUR TRAVEL PROGRAM
There are typically more players trying out for HVAA Travel Basketball teams than the number of spots on a team, so please know that every child who participates in tryouts may not make the team. If your child does not make a travel team or is looking for a league where playing time is guaranteed, we highly encourage players to participate in our in-house program with over 550 players.
